About this artist

Gesner Armand was born in 1936 in Croix-des Bouquets. He was initiated into drawing and watercolor at the Centre d'Art in 1956 , and was granted a scholarship by the French Government in 1961 to study art in Paris. He lived in Paris for 2 years and came back to the Croix des Bouquets. He was the curator for the Musee d'Art Haitien in Port-au-Prince for a couple of years. He studied art both in Paris and Mexico. As a renown Haitian painter, he has exhibited in Haiti, Mexico, the United States, Paris, Spain, Jamaica, Martinique, Venezuela, Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Guadeloupe, and Israel . He is known for his luminous country scenes and his pigeons; and although his still-lives reveal an undeniable Mexican Influence his art reflects the strong love he has for his country, Haiti. Armand passed on June 10, 2008.
